Haters

March 9, 2010

Why is this guy so angry?

He just must be mad that the whole fixie thing has gotten so trendy, they even have ACTION FIGURES! I imagine kids at recess playing with their favorite fixie hipster in the gravel on the playground…

I am all about cycling getting recognition, but give me a Darth Vader figure and TIE Fighter any day!

A LIVE SUMMIT COUNTY UPDATE

March 5, 2010

Winter finally decided to show up in mid February this year.  It’s turning out to be a big surprise after the long dry spell and occasional storm up until then.  So I did my obligatory snow shoe race in early January and promptly traded the snowshoes in for skis.

Now I’m setting my sights on the Imperial Challenge in April.

Wasn’t sure if it was going to happen this year, but the ski resort decided to pull it off.  Also new this year in Breckenridge is the 5-peaks challenge.  A 10,000 foot plus amount of climbing and descending the peaks around Breck.  I’m considering doing the race but I need a partner that can crush the competition with me.

I’ve been getting some backcountry skiing in with Yves Piecoup of Montezuma’s Revenge fame.  Last Friday we hit French Pass, there are a couple photos below.  It’s a long slog out there and the great thing about it is you’re the only one out there.  Conditions were perfect until the top of the pass where the wind, snow, and cold were brutal.

but they need some help…

Golden Bike Park: Need your help!!!

——————————————————————————–

The rumors and plans are becoming reality! The Golden Bike Park is very close with final plans with approvals coming up quickly. The Golden Bike Park development Team needs your assistance on a few matters; and its only a quick email away:

The Golden Bike Park is meant to appeal to everyone. We are planning to have several elements that include:
-Gravity fed flow trail
-Gravity fed jump trail
-pump tracks (2 initially, one for smaller kids and one for bigger kids (adults))
-cyclo-cross / XC loop
-DH skill trails
-drop zone
-Dirt Jumps
-progression & obstacle elements trail

All of these elements will be phased in over time, and our window for phase one approvals is getting very close.

How you can help:

1. Support
2. maintenance crews
3. Trail construction

1. I would like to get your support. All you need to do is send me an email, stating your support of the park.
-please include
-your full name
-your address, city, state
-email address (this is for communication only, I WON’T SPAM YOU!!!)
-telephone number (optional)

2. We are putting together a long term maintenance plan for Golden Parks & Rec’s Dept. Because they have never maintained a facility like this, short term, we need your help with a maintenance plan. If you would like to volunteer some time, helping with trail maintenance and other bike park help, Please let me know in the email!!!
-state in the email: Please contact me for help with bike park maintenance.

-our expectation is that we’ll run a voluntary once a month (initially) crew to keep the dirt in the right places and make sure the trails are the way we want them.

3. Longer term, we’ll be putting together new trail plans and Bike Park Idea’s from you. We want this to be a place where everyone (XC, DH, DS, DJ, DS, FR, Cyclo-cross, kids, teenager, groms, wives, beginners to seasoned experts) can come and ride. In addition to your support, please realize that when you send your support for this park, that you may be a part of its longevity as this grows into something for everyone. Building trails can be a lot of fun, please let us know if you’re interested in that as well.

So please, send me an email, with the above info (your name, addy) and let us know if you’re interested in being a part of the trail crew (both routine maintenance and long term planning input).

Please send emails to: goldenbikepark@gmail.com

Colorado Indoor BMX Racing

January 24, 2010

An enthusiastic group of people have orchestrated early season racing up in Greeley! Colorado Indoor BMX will be hosting three race weekends- One in early January, one in mid February, and the last one in March. The Turner Posse headed up for the first race, there was a huge turnout on both days, I’d guess 350-400 on Saturday with 32 motos (by age and level) and 250-300 on Sunday with 28 motos. Even though the turnout was less on Sunday, the racers on Sunday were the hardcore seasoned riders. After 3 qualifiers for each  age group, Saturday ended up with both Conrad and Dillon making the final for their age group and both got second place podiums. On Sunday, only Lander made the final and managed to blow a tire in the first turn, he was bummed, he had a good shot at making the podium, alas he will race another day.

So you are asking yourself, why do i care…..?

They have a MTB class that does not require ABA membership, that’s why! Bring your $10 and a MTB, and you get a full day of racing indoors. It would be great to get a bunch of the team out there and invite as many other Front Range teams and hope for a huge turn out.

For more info- http://www.cibmx.org/

Update- The Turner Boys just got their district numbers for 2010-

Conrad is #121

Dillon is #73 (hoping to move up to expert)

Lander is # 129

Good job little BPC’ers!

At the 2006 Tour Cadel Evans had one fan

October 22, 2009

Cadel's single fan at the 2006 TDF

Cadel's single fan at the 2006 TDF

Cadel is not exactly the most popular guy, but it does take dedicated fan to haul around a plywood kangaroo on a stick to all the mountain stages. She probably had to get a bigger rental car just so she could haul around her sign. Back in the DBR days (Diamond Back Racing, alternatively know as D*ck Breath Racing), Jimi K and Cadel used to go at it. After training at the course, Cadel would lay on his bed looking at the ceiling “recovering” for hours while the rest of the team was destroying rental cars, throwing firecrackers at each other, playing golf, etc. I guess that is why Cadel is World Champ now…and he may have a couple more fans since he won the worlds.
