La Tierra Torture

March 8, 2009

Even though MSC changed the race fees this week back to a reasonable fee, I am still looking forward to and planning on racing ‘NORBA FREE’ this season.  Mitch found this Non NORBA race down in Santa Fe called La Tierra Torture!

torture

I asked Santa Fe local, Tom (aka El Toro), what he knew about the race and this was his reply….

it’s a great little trail system … rolling, twisting, turning, fun! if we don’t get rain, the arroys will be really sandy, but it would be a fun race!  you guys would CRUSH some people out there!! – Tom

So, sorry MSC, it looks like the first race of the year will not be in Fruita, but the down in the Land of Enchantment! – Swift

Blackhills Fat Tire Festival

March 2, 2009

blackhillsWhile we are all discussing the raise in MSC race fees… 😦

It is nice to find other race options like the Black Hills Fat Tire Festival!  They are offering a ton of different races; XC, Super D, Hill Climbs, and Off Road Tri.  So, this may be the first year I head to South Dakota instead of New Mexico on Memorial Day…

Breck Epic – Update

January 22, 2009

The Breck Epic website was recently update with pricing information!!!!

  • The RACE: just under $1000/person. This actually includes quite a bit – swag, on-course support, bike storage, banquet tickie and on-course food…the usual suspects.
  • Camping: around $200 for solos (2-person tent plus one pad) and $250 for teams (4-person tent and 2 pads). Only our tents will be allowed for camping. Absolutely no exceptions. We’ll work out a different rate for RV’s, but we’re not likely to have hook-ups or power available for the jet-set camping crew. That’s not to suggest that you can’t bring them – you can. We’ll have great spots for you, but it’s also not a KOA campground. Camping fees include parking for your car, garbage and recycling service and a handful of other goodies.
  • Meal Plan: just over $300. If you haven’t seen the menu you should absolutely check it out (there’s a link to the right where you can access it.) The food is over the top.
  • Additional banquet tickets: @ $4o

New National XC Pro Series

December 12, 2008

From Cyclingnews.com

“The USA Cycling Pro Mountain Bike Cross Country Tour presented by Sho-Air (ProXCT) will consist of seven UCI-sanctioned events throughout the US in 2009.

It replaces the now-defunct National Mountain Bike Series (NMBS), which wrapped up at the end of the 2008 season. The series is comprised of three east coast and three west coast races and a final in Las Vegas, Nevada, held one day after the annual Interbike Expo trade show. Unlike the NMBS races, which shared a common organizer, the ProXCT is a coalition of independent races linked together into a national series. All but one of the races are also part of the US Cup Kenda East or Kenda West series.”

2009 USA Cycling Pro Cross Country Mountain Bike Tour (ProXCT)
March 29: U.S. Cup – Fontana, California
April 19: Sea Otter Classic – Monterey, California
May 31: Bump N’Grind – Birmingham, Alabama
June 13: CTS Sand Creek International Classic – Colorado Springs, CO
August 8: U.S. Cup – Mount Snow, West Dover, Vermont
August 15: Yankee Clipper at Windham Mountain, Windham, New York
September 26: USA Cycling Pro Cross Country Finals, Las Vegas, Nevada

Now, if some of the big pros could get contracts, then all will be well!

12 Hours of Snow Mass

September 18, 2008

Bikeparts.com team,

Amy Hermes and I raced in the Duo Coed category and placed 3rd less than 15 minutes out from first.  What could have happened if we didn’t race on our singlespeeds?  Who cares!  Team Flying Shopping Cart kicked ass and suffered through 13 laps, 91 miles and 20,000 of climbing.  I am waiting on the photos of me leading Lance out on the first lap while wearing my jailbird suit so if anyone sees one online let me know.

The warm up for Snowmass was a few days spent in Crested Butte.  Good times but it rained a lot.  I had the opportunity to take a group of about 10 on their first tour of Trail 401.  At least one bike was older than Colin Osborne on that ride.

Here is some photos! Thanks, Colin McKernan
