2008 Angel Fire Chile Challenge – Team BikeParts.com
May 26, 2008Team BikeParts.com traveled to Angel Fire New Mexico to compete in the Mountain States Cup Chile Challenge Mountain Bike race.
Jesse Swift finished 9th (Pro XC) out of 26+ with a time around 2:08.
Jon Watt placed 2nd in Expert.
Tim, Parker and Nick (Lenny) all raced hard too in the Expert Class.

2008 Iron Horse Criterium
May 26, 2008Michael Carter won the men’s 35-39 crit this weekend at the Iron Horse. This is the second year in a row he worked the field with a mad attack with 6 laps to go. An unorganized chase failed to close down the gap to the flying Carter. You would think we would learn…
Oh, and Michael has finished a few more Tour De France’s than most of the other crit participants.
Matt Smith ended up 10th and Andy rounded out the top 20.

2008 Iron Horse Road Race Canceled
May 24, 2008Its official, the 2008 Iron Horse Road Race and Citizens tour has been canceled due to incliment weather conditions. Temperatures at 32F and rain in town (at 6500 feet) translates to about 10F and 6 inches of snow at 10,640 feet (top of Coal Bank pass).
With over 2500 participants and only a small % with the gear to ride in such conditions, Iron Horse race promoters would have a small natural disaster on their hands if they let the race go.

Durango training
May 11, 2008I guess I have to call it training, even though I despise formal training. Yesterday we went to ride the passes in preparation for the Iron Horse road race and crit. It was 40F at Purgatory with wet roads, Coal Bank and Molas passes were covered in clouds with fresh snow at about 9300 ft. We bailed and instead did a mountain bike tour of Durango including Animas Mountain, Test Tracks and Horse Gulch / Telegraph. Sunday was a different story with great beautiful spring weather. The Durango Wheel Club hosted training criteriums at the new Mercy Medical Center Regional hospital.

CT 50
May 10, 2008Tate and i rode a nice 44 mile section of the Colorado Trail this morning. we started up near Bailey and rode east on the CT trail through Buffalo Creek/Top of the World/Waterton Canyon. it was a great ride and after riding tons of sweet singletrack, we didnt see any one else on the trail until 2 1/2 hours in, hikers, then we saw our first mtn bikers at almost 3 hours. the wind was nasty and it was a pretty cold ride, but it was a good time! we are getting ready for the Front Range 50 and the BC bike race later in June! here is the GPS site and elevation profile. After looking at the elevation, it was kind of like a 44 mile Super D! 🙂 – jesse

2008 Durango South Rim Duathlon
May 6, 2008The 2008 Durango South Rim Duathlon is hosted by Durango Parks and Rec. This year it consisted of a kids race, short course and long course.
The short course included a 2.5 mile run and a 6 mile bike section. The long course consisted of a 6 mile run and 18 miles of mountain biking (3 laps of the 6 mile run course).
The course was along the South Rim trail, a part of the greater Telegraph Trail System built by Trails 2000 and included fun twisty singletrack, short climbs (longest at 4 minutes) and one long muddy downhill down the Big Canyon trail.
We finished up 2nd in the 35 under team category with a 2:12, about 3.5 minutes out of first.
Overall Race Results:
Dan Ourada won the 19-34 age group (2:01.17).
Shonny Vanlandingham won the women’s (2:07:23). Kristin Danielson was second (2:29:30).
