So you’re in the market for an e-bike and you’ve been researching different makes, models battery sizes and styles. With all the information and different options out there, it can be overwhelming. We’d like to share a few tools you can use to help pick the right e-bike for you. And we’ll also give a few recommendations for our favorite e-bikes on the market right now. Let’s dive in and get one step closer to riding away on your new ride.
The e-bike world has been expanding rapidly. What started out as a commuter phenomenon has now turned into everything from high-performance road bikes to full suspension mountain bikes. In the years to come, we will most definitely see new types of e-bikes pop up on the market. Currently, however, there are four main types of e-bikes you’ll find: Road, Comfort, Commuting, and Mountain. Choosing the right type of e-bike for you should be fairly intuitive. Are you an avid road rider who wants to keep up with your younger counterparts, the new Creo would be a sweet choice for you. Are you looking to venture on the mountain bike trails with your kids? The Levo absolutely makes the most sense. Looking for a fun ride to get around town? The Como or Vado are both great options.
At Peak Cycles, we’ve found that most people are concerned with how long the battery will last. Generally speaking, the higher you go up in price the more powerful the motor and the higher the battery capacity will be. In turn, the more you spend on your bike, the more range it will get. But that number isn’t exactly straight forward. There are many factors that determine the range of an e-bike including height and weight, how hilly the terrain is, average speed, turbo level, and how often you stop. Luckily Specialized has created a calculator that lets you figure out the bikes range easily, based on your inputs. Simply choose the bike that you’re interested in and put in your information. One last factor to consider when purchasing your e-bike are the accessories that come with it. And again, just like battery and motor size, the more you spend the more accessories your bike will come with. Some of the most popular accessories include fenders for keeping rain and mud off of your clothes and built-in lighting systems that run off the bike’s internal battery. Consider whether or not these features are important to you before purchasing the bike. One of the great things about going with a brand like specialized is the mission control app that connects to the bikes computer. This app lets you monitor your battery life, speed, and other important trip stats. Our personal favorite feature is the ability to plan rides. If you open the app and let it know that you want to ride 45 miles, it will moderate your battery usage to ensure the battery doesn’t run out before the rides over. This amazing feature reduces or totally eliminates battery anxiety and the fear of running out of battery while you’re out riding.

For the Vado 2.0, we developed a custom 460 Wh battery, the Specialized U1-460, that seamlessly integrates into the frame, is lockable, and is easily removable for simplified charging. Depending on your riding style, terrain, and setup, there’s plenty of juice to take you to and from work, make a trip to the grocery store, or to even head over to that new café on the other side of town.
2020 Specialized S Works Turbo Creo SL
The Creo SL is the lightest e-bike in its class literally kilograms lighter than the competition. Not only does the lightweight and stiff FACT 11r carbon frame inspire dancing on the pedals and diving into corners, but it also reduces overall system weight and increases the range.
Specialized Turbo Levo Comp Carbon
When you’re ripping around the trail on the Turbo Levo Comp Carbon, there’s no denying that you’re on a fully-fledged trail bike. In fact, the only thing that feels turbo-charged about it is the massive smile on your face. And with perfectly tuned kinematics, true Trail Geometry, and a new custom battery and motor, the power to ride more trails is yours.
